SHOW 5

LIVE INTERVIEWS
Segment One: NanceCo's lawyer

After reviewing the material from past shows, lawyer Oral Aphid is not surprised that the Showman is being sued by every special interest group in the world. Even though they have never made fun of Lithuanians, the are being sued by the "Lithuanian Hard of Hearing Society", who heard wrong when they made fun of Ukrainians. Sadly, he opines that they can no longer make fun of celebrities, thanks to the 1987 Freedom of Humor Act, which forbids ridiculing any public figures except Geraldo Rivera.

In an exercise in damage control, Aphid has reviewed the upcoming script, and had to cut everything. Nancy's only choices are to go off the air, or to continue with a fishing show. Unfortunately for the crew and the viewing audience, she chooses to continue.

Segment Two: Chuck Boesen, director of Ice Fishin' Up Nort'

Chuck is interviewed by Nancy, who tries gamely to relate to fishing. She asks such incisive questions as "what's the biggest piece of ice you've ever caught". Finally, when Chuch answers some questions satisfactorily, he is declared a winner, and Nancy says, "tell him what he's won, Don Pardo". Chuck is awarded

  • A bottle of T.J. Swann, "the favorite wine of America's rotting inner cities."
  • The great smell of Brut. "Brut, because we had some lying around"
  • An airline meal from Buddy Holly airways
  • The silver anniversary issue of "Trout" magazine. "Trout ... serving the trout and salmon fishing community for ... a pretty long time"
  • Shirley Maclaine's Crimean War Chess Set
  • The Abominable Showman Home Game
  • A check from Vlasic Pickles, who paid not to have their product shown.
Segment Three: Bruce, the nail guy

Bruce did the nails of all the celebrity couples that attended the gala Premiere: Pete and Tokyo Rose, Mahalia and Scoop Jackson, Peter and Wily Coyote. It was a complimentary manicure for stars. Nancy had to pay.

VIDEOS

Film One: Ice Fishin Up Nort'

A silent film about Ice Fishing co-ordinated with the climax of the "1812 Overture". Although technically sound, the video combines the glamour and excitement of fishing with the general ambiance and stimulation to be found in Helsinki on a Wednesday night. Like watching an episode of Gadabout Gaddis directed by Ingmar Bergman.

Film Two: Filmed Interviews from the Gala Premiere

Greg talks to various show enthusiasists, including an anonymous draft dodger and a woman who doesn't look very much like Ruth Gordon.
